Nature-Based Restoration Projects 
  • Two nature-based restoration projects will be implemented in the Zwalm river basin: (1) implementation of grass flower buffer strips and (2) the river restoration of the stream Dorenbosbeek by remeandering, removal of small fish migration barriers, and installation of small fish migration barriers. 

The timeline of the implementation is:

Buffer strips
  • Contacts with farmers during spring/summer 2022 and following years 
  • First buffer strips sown in autumn 2022 and continuing in 2023 and 2024

River restoration
  • License to do restoration measures (summer 2022)
  • Detailing specification (summer 2022)
  • Finding a contractor (autumn 2022)
  • Restoration works (summer 2023)
